Not a Trip for Trypophobics

We took a stroll through Shaws Cove in Laguna Beach to scope out some of its tide pools.

Tide pools are shallow pools of sea water that form in and among rocks after tides recede. They make a great habitat for marine animals and plants such as mussels, barnacles, and various algae.

We saw sea stars, sea anemones (that close up when poked at), barnacles, and fish. The main attraction however might have been the mussels and clams which lay in clusters. Mom (while finding it a bit repulsive yet tolerable) knew the same sight would downright disgust others. Naturally, she wanted to share.

Trypophobia: a phobia of irregular patterns or clusters of small holes and/or bumps.

I challenge any trypophobic to take a close look at the beds of mussels and clams we were walking through...and touching!
